Our New Buckaroo has arrived Caleb Gordon Holbrook March 13, 2006 6:00 p.m. 9 lbs. 10 oz. 20 inches Caleb Gordon’s Birth Story
I had my OB appointment at 9:45 am.
Chandler and I waited for over an hour to get in to see him. Finally I
was taken back, weighed, urine sample, blood pressure all that normal
stuff, then my OB came in to do the internal exam. He checked me and
told me I was dilated to 5 cm. And that I could go over to the hospital
and have the baby if I so desired.
At 11 am we arrived at the hospital and
went upstairs to labor and delivery where they were patiently awaiting
our arrival. We told them who we were and they took us back to labor
room 13 and started hooking me up to all kinds of fun things. The
annoying blood pressure cuff that yes I finally just got sick of and
took it off altogether because the stupid thing kept sliding down my arm
every time I moved. Then you have your contraction monitor and your
baby’s heart rate monitor, oh yeah and the every so lovely IV. Well, by
noon they had started my pitocin and the contractions where regular but
not very hard. At 2 pm my OB came and broke my water. I have never
seen or felt so much water gush out of me at one time, it was just
spraying out all over like a fire hose. By this time I am at 7 cm and
hoping that the labor will be over with soon.
By 4 pm my contractions where HARD and
STEADY! I couldn’t believe how bad this was feeling but I did not want
to get that epidural so I stuck with it, trying to breathe through the
contractions. I finally told Chandler (DH) that I wanted him to have
the nurse come check me because after all having pain and contractions
like this must mean I am ready to push! Well she checked me and I was
only an 8 and also more fluid gushed out and I am thinking how much is
in there, but also I was so frustrated and hurting I didn’t know what to
do. By 4:45 I was begging to use the toilet I had so much pressure and
pain and but everyone just kept saying that the pressure I was
feeling was just from the baby’s head moving down. The nurse checked
me again and said I still had a bit of a cervix left and I was in so
much pain and discomfort that she game me half a cc of some kind of
Narcotic in my IV (it started with an S, I can’t remember the name of it
though). This just barely took the edge off but got me to a 9.5 where
the nurse decided it was time to call my OB over… At this point I am in
tears and begging to push or for them to let me go to the bathroom.
Neither of which they were letting me do!!!! After my OB got in his
scrubs it was time to push! I was pushing and pushing and finally my OB
told me to stop while he got a Catheter and emptied my bladder. This
was NOT fun, I haven’t ever had a Cath hurt so bad before not to mention
telling me not to push right in the middle of a HUGE contraction!
Well, finally after about 45 mins. of pushing Caleb was born at 6 pm!!!
He weighed in at a WHOOPING 9 pounds 10 oz. and was 20 inches long with
sandy brown hair and blue eyes. I can’t believe I actually pushed him
out of me it all seems so CRAZY now. I only had to get 1 stitch so that
was good news and so far he is eating ok not the greatest but I think he
will get the idea soon enough.
Now on to the pictures
